team training
Practices
Practices start in July. Your team registration includes
two practice sessions. Each team participant must
practice at least 1 out of the 2 assigned team practices. The first practice should be considered mandatory -
this is with a coach who gives specifics about the technique and course. The steerperson must be at
both
practices. Each Dragon Boat team will practice and race with a full team of 22 participants per boat (including
1 drummer and 1 steerperson). A team may practice or race with a minimum of sixteen (16) paddlers per boat plus
1 steerperson. Teams may register in the following categories; Mixed Recreational, Mixed Competitive and
All-Female. Practices are booked on a first come first serve basis. All sessions that are cancelled due to bad
weather will be rescheduled, time permitting. Exceptions will be considered by the Festival Race Committee.
Steerperson Training
Steerperson training will take place during the practice sessions booked by
the team. Steerperson must attend all two (2) practices.
Logistics Meeting
The Team Logistics Meeting will be held prior to the event. The team managers logistics meeting is intended for
all team managers and steerspersons. This meeting is very important for attendance, as all race day procedures,
last minute event changes and a complete explanation and overview of race rules and regulations will be discussed.
Any last minute questions or team concerns can be addressed at this meeting.
